Bento #61, #62, #63,

Bento #61

This is for catching up on last week’s bento meals,

Photobucket

It's Ashley’s Thursday’s bento box. It’s 2 mini home baked buns with 5 cubes of cheese. I use the bread machine for the dough, shaped them into 18 mini buns and shove them in the oven. Reserve half for this morning’s breakfast and froze the rest.

On the right divider is 2 slices of apple from half an apple, and 3 cherry tomatoes and 3 grapes.

Bento #62

This is Ashley’s Friday’s bento.

I have asked her teacher to persuade her to eat the broccoli and siew mai with her rice in school today because Ashley will need to go in the office with me today and I didn’t want to have to worry about feeding her later.

I normally either work half days on Fridays or bring both kids to the office with me cos while I could leave Ashley in school, I couldn't leave Kimberly anywhere when she gets home at 12.30. Kimberly's school is on half day on Fridays. That particular day, I had needed to go in, hence both kids goes with me.

Anyhow, back to bento.

The broccoli was stir fried in oyster sauce and is from a leftover dish from yesterday’s dinner.

I added 3 fishballs for just in case , 2 cherry tomatoes and some star shaped toasts.

She ate the brocolli, tomatoes and the fishballs, turning up her nose on the rest. I figure it's because siew mai is not a familiar item in her bento box, and she prefers the school's lunch of rice over my toasts.

Kimberly finishes school at 11.30am last Friday because they are having Merdeka Day celebration in school.

They were encouraged to wear national costumes to school that day, so she went in her cheong sam. There weren't any classes going on that day. Only colouring contests and stuffs like that.

But, any reason to get those cheong sam out of the closet, really. Considering that those chinese costumes only get worn once year, I am glad that I have another kid of the same gender to take over the hand me downs. haha.

Seriously, Kimberly refused to wear anything except Chinese costumes during Chinese New Year and we got her like 6 to 7 pieces each year to last that first 3 days of CNY.

Anyhow, since she gets home by 11.30 am that Friday, I did not pack her any bento meal. On Fridays, her school will provide food for their break time instead of lunch time.

Bento #63

This bento is Kimberly’s lunch bento. Since Ashley had lunch in school, Kimberly would have to eat hers later in my office. Her break time in school on Fridays is at 9.20 am, so she is bound to be hungry by the time we get to my office.

My entourage of 2 kids and 2 bento boxes need to follow me wherever I go at all time if they are not in school. haha ! Although, ashley didn't exactly get a bento box. It's more like a fruit snack, comprising of honeydew and apple slices. Didn't take a picture of that.

Kimberly's lunch bento is rice with furikake and roasted chicken. Didn't want to shape the rice in moulds in case Ashley sees them and wants them. I think having rice in school is more than enough. She needs that space in her tummy for protein, preferably from a portion of the chicken out of my lunch bento box.

The chicken pieces were marinated in soy sauce and oyster sauce and roasted in the oven.

I had the same lunch as Kimberly's for my bento except that mine were just topped clumsily on top of my rice without furikake and not prettily arranged for want of time, so it wasn't picture worthy.

Added 3 tomatoes for her because Kimberly loves tomatoes; and 4 grapes for fruits.

I had to help her debone the chicken, but it sure beat having to lug 2 kids out to eat and fighting for time.

Ashley likes the chicken too, and she snitched a little from Kimberly here and there. She prefers those out of Kimberly's bento box than those out of mine.

I will probably include this into her bento meals next time. De-boned, of course.

So that’s last week’s bento.

Will load up this week's bento soon, now that streamyx is up and about. Have a great weekend, folks !

  • Ms__2be, I am posting from both blogs. But bento is from this blog and posts about the kids and other stuff are usually in www.allthingspurple.my

Thanks, Immomsdaughter. It's usually base on the existing food in my kitchen. The trick is to try to get to the 3-2-1 proportion as much as you can. 3 proportion in carbo, 2 in vege/fruit and one in protein.

Hey RAchel's mom. Now that you mentioned it, it does look rather squarish and triangularish. But it wasn't intentional. They came that way.

Thanks Misha's mom and Irene. The chicken dish was a quite speedy dish. Just marinate in soy sauce about 20 min, then dump it out, add more soy sauce, some black sauce and some oyster sauce n bake 20 minutes. Add honey 5 minutes before cooked.
